It’s one of the fashion highlights of the year but this year the fashion at the Academy Awards seemed to fall a little flat. Sunday’s Oscars may have been full of surprises in terms of the actual awards, but the dresses left quite a lot to be desired, with a lot playing it safe. Though the drama of previous years may have been missing, there were certainly lots of talking points from Sunday’s ceremony.

Hands down one of the best dressed of the night. Her stunning silver Versace gown was had all the drama you expect of an Oscar night dress, while it’s classic shape oozed old Hollywood glamour.

Lupita N’yongo

This Prada dress was an absolute winner. The soft Cinderella-esque blue tone was gorgeous against her skin and not even her questionable choice of headband could undermine how stunning she looked. Yet more proof she can do no wrong when it comes to fashion.

Sandra Bullock

This navy Alexander McQueen number may have been simple, but it’s fit was absolutely perfect for Sandra. How can this woman be nearly 50?!

Jennifer Lawrence

Yes, she looks stunning but it’s a rather safe option considering the scale of the event. Another awards ceremony, another Dior gown. More of the same from Jennifer Lawrence (yawn).

Cate Blanchett

She may have walked away with the Best Actress gong but that dress was certainly not winning any awards. Although her Armani gown was beautifully embellished, the colour completely washed her out and did her no favours.

Margot Robbie

Probably the biggest disappointment of the night. Her arrival was so highly anticipated, only for us all to be let down. The new brunette locks, the boring black dress, there’s just one word to describe it: meh.
