The one and only Charlotte Tilbury, makeup artist to the biggest and shiniest of stars, a woman idolised by millions for her makeup abilities, the lady crowned makeup artist of the year at the Instyle awards in LA this year, has revealed that she wears her makeup to bed every night! And that her husband, producer George Waud, has never seen her without a full face of makeup on!
Tilbury’s nighttime regime starts with her completely removing all of her makeup, only to then reapply it. Charlotte’s bedtime look includes applying her own ‘Wonderglow’ primer and creating her ‘bedroom eye’. The ‘bedroom eye’ look is one she has developed especially for going to bed.
Charlotte admits that she looks at her reflection in the mirror without her makeup on and says ‘She’s not a good look’!
Tilbury doesn’t do this to impress her husband though, ‘it’s what it does for me’ ‘not my husband’ she says. Wearing makeup allows you ‘to be the best version of you’.
Charlotte has created makeup looks for many of the world’s most beautiful women including Kate Moss, Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham. So, if these gorgeous women, who appear to have flawless skin and exude beauty trust Charlotte’s beauty expertise, why shouldn’t we?
According to beautician and skincare expert Nicola Donoghue we shouldn’t. ‘The skin renews itself at nighttime. That’s why it is so essential to remove all makeup before bed. When you’re asleep your skin cells renew themselves, and to give them the best opportunity to do this, your skin must be free from all makeup.’
Leaving makeup on at night can lead to ‘blocked pores and blackheads which in turn can cause spot breakouts and enlarged pores.
So, to wear or go bare? That is the question. Will you follow in the footsteps of Charlotte Tilbury and go by her ‘smokey eye till I die’ motto? Or will you dare to be a makeup free sleeping beauty?
